Ann Woodard, Photographer is a licensed and insured business currently located in Alexandria, VA. I currently operate in the D.C. area, but am also available for travel! (please, take me with you!) Here's a little bit more about me:
After moving from coastal North Carolina in 2015, I live here in Virginia with my Marine husband and two sweet hilarious boy-muses, 5 and 10. If you notice a dog in my personal work, that is my best friend and dog soul-mate Jack, who passed away December 2015. I can't describe how much I miss him.
My history involves, well, history. Before photography, I received my MA in European history, which allowed me to do two of my other favorite activities - travel and read history books. Yes, I'm sort of a nerd. But I do feel that my appreciation for the past and the progress of time makes me a stronger, more mindful photographer.
I first picked up a professional camera to start more beautifully documenting my boys' childhood in 2012, and couldn't believe what a driving force it became in my life. Through workshops, forums, retreats, study, and constant practice, I continue to try to perfect my vision and art, which has been described as real, clean, classic, and quiet.
My goal with every session, every frame, is a more beautiful, meaningful image. My clients want non-traditional, non-posed, and minimally-edited photographs. Images with movement and lots of light, that capture them as they truly are - a sliver of themselves in time - natural, raw, and vulnerable. I believe there is true beauty in life's everyday moments, there for us to find. That is my job, and I love it.
To create an image that evokes emotion. To create art that lives.
My images have featured on photography forums such as The Gratitude Collaborative, In Beauty & Chaos, Little Bellows, Love Photographs Beautifully, The Monochromatic Lens, Life, Defined Project, Spark, Picture Me Project, Snap Maven, Where the Boys Are and Clickin Moms and I've been a featured photographer on Reflections, Spark, Love Photographs Beautifully, and Giggles and Goldfish.
Ann Woodard was chosen as a nominee in the 2015 International Child Photo Competition, category: Professional Newborn.
